When people think of VPS Hosting, they tend to think of big Enterprise companies like Rackspace or Lunarpages. But GoDaddy has a robust set of VPS Hosting plans that are as good as any VPS specific hosting company out there. GoDaddy doesn’t advertise this fact, but when you order any VPS plan of theirs, you get a free SSL certificate included in your hosting plan. If you don’t know what they are, SSL certificates increase the security of your website and increases the trust between you and visitors to your website.
Godaddy’s VPS Hosting is not considered ‘regular hosting’, and so the deals you see for 50% off hosting do not apply for VPS. For those deals, be sure to check out our GoDaddy shared hosting coupons list. Of course you can catch all the latest Godaddy discounts and deals on our main Godaddy coupon page.
GoDaddy VPS FAQ:
Even though VPS (virtual private server) Hosting has been around for many years now, the technology behind VPS hosting has vastly improved in the past couple of years. Many now argue that VPS is the best kind of hosting, as it is more flexible and adaptive to traffic spikes and lulls. We go in to much more detail in our “VPS: Is It Worth It?” post.
If after reading this FAQ you still have questions about whether VPS hosting is right for you, feel free to ask it via our Contact Form (we hope to hear from you!)
How Much Does GoDaddy VPS Hosting Cost?
The plans start for as little as $20/month and as much as $170/month (yikes!). You can save a lot by purchasing two years of hosting up front. You can also use the coupons above to save about 30% off that price.
Do I Need to Purchase My Own SSL Certificate?
Nope. You get a free SSL Certificate when you sign up for a VPS plan.
I have multiple websites. How many can I host on a VPS server?
You can host unlimited websites on your VPS server. You also get 3 free Unique IP addresses.
I’m not sure if I need VPS yet. How can I tell?
If you have shared hosting with GoDaddy, they will contact you to let you know you should upgrade. If you don’t, then generally if you’re getting over 2,000 unique visitors/day, you should consider upgrading to VPS to make sure your website doesn’t start slowing down.
Is VPS More Secure?
Yes, VPS is much more secure than any shared hosting environment. Even though you are technically sharing a server with other websites, the virtualization software is completely separate from other software on that software. So if a hacker manages to break-in to a website on a particular server, they would still be unable to access any VPS-hosted websites.
VPS or Dedicated: Which is Better?
Many people enjoy owning their own server, and choose to go the ‘Dedicated’ route. Having one server entirely dedicated to your website sounds good, but it also means that you may be paying for a lot of resources that you never use. If your website doesn’t get a huge amount of traffic, then you are spending way too much.
Conversely, if your website has a sudden spike in traffic that goes beyond your server’s capability, then your website(s) will crash and you will need to remotely reboot the server yourself. VPS plans tend to have flexibility in these areas: they won’t charge you for resources you don’t use, and they can handle huge spikes in traffic by sharing the load amongst multiple servers.
In terms of pure cost effectiveness, we recommend Virtual Private Server hosting over dedicated. Maybe five years ago it would be different, but nowadays VPS has improved so significantly that there’s almost no reason why you wouldn’t use VPS.
Does GoDaddy offer Linux or Windows for its VPS Servers?
For Windows, GoDaddy offers…well…Windows (there’s only one type).
What Kind of Support Do I Get With VPS Hosting?
If you’ve never set up a Virtual Private Server before, the task can be pretty daunting. For the first 30 days after you purchase a VPS plan, GoDaddy offers a “Server Concierge” that can help you with tasks like setting up a domain name, software installation, DNS setup, firewall rules, and more.
Lately you’ve probably been seeing Jean Claude Van Damme Bongo videos and other such unspeakable videos from Godaddy. But here is a nice one that focuses on mature small business owners. Here they profile simplysweets.com, which is a small business that uses Godaddy for its VPS hosting needs:
